Applications of VR, AR and MR

Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality (MR) are changing the way we define user experience – and that is clearly transforming business practices.  A plethora of technologies that have emerged in recent years is driving this trend and we are continuously seeing new applications, innovative products, and new business models making use of the recent advancements in this area. VR, AR and MR have already demonstrated considerable potential for a variety of industries – no matter whether it be entertainment, retail, marketing, manufacturing, logistics, healthcare or space exploration, the spectrum of application domains is constantly increasing.

The broad spectrum of these applications means there is a huge potential in interdisciplinary teamwork. Different industries can profit from each other by sharing experiences, best practices and visions for novel application areas in the field. This workshop aims to bring both industry and academia together to facilitate knowledge transfer, and trigger new co-operative projects. The intention of this workshop is to explore both technical and methodological aspects of VR, AR, MR, through dynamic and reciprocal exchange of knowledge and experience.

SPRINGER Book Series

EuroAsiaSPI² is publishing an annual SPRINGER book and the EuroSPI books show a total of 150000 (one hunded fifty thousand) chapter downloads. The workshop papers will form a chapter for this thematic topic in the SPRINGER book.

How to submit

Please follow the following steps for submitting a paper:

  • Your thematic topic paper should comprise 10-12 pages.
  • Your paper has to be conform to the Springer CCIS format which is the same as the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) format (please see the author guidelines of Springer)
  • The paper has to be uploaded to the EuroAsiaSPI² conference website (see below).
  • Authors of accepted papers will be asked to write a final paper of 10 to maximum 12 pages and to prepare a 20 minutes PowerPoint presentation.
  • The final paper has to be uploaded to the EuroAsiaSPI² conference website again.
  • Papers shall reference the SPI Manifesto (find relationships to values and principles or propose new values and principles to be added).

Note: To publish the paper in the proceedings the authors have to sign a copyright form and at least one of the authors has to present the paper at the conference. The paper will be published in printed form and electronically and therefore we need all source files.

Please read first the author submission guide. More...

Additional Information

Submission Guidelines

The workshop will include both research papers and experience reports in the field of VR, AR, MR. Research Papers must describe original completed work or work in progress. Since the main purpose of presenting at the workshop is to exchange ideas with other researchers and to receive helpful feedback for further development of the work, papers should clearly indicate directions for future research wherever appropriate. Experience reports should clearly outline the application area, and the lessons learned in the process. Both positive and negative results should be included. All submitted papers will undergo a peer-review process. The final acceptance decision will be based on the results of the review.

Interactive Workshop Approach

Focus of interest and main questions discussed during the workshop will be:
  • Virtual Reality (VR)
  • Augmented Reality (AR)
  • Mixed Reality (MR)
  • Industry applications
  • Mobile applications
  • Applications in different domains (healthcare, Automotive, Automation, production, learning)
  • Case studies
  • Methodologies
  • Visions of usage
  • Best Practices using VR

Each presentation will be discussed towards these main topics of interest. A panel discussion at the end shall come up with a summary of the solutions presented and with new research topics to focus on to solve this integrated approach (work for next year to meet at next EuroAsiaSPI² and share again).
